Religious Education

Intent

Religion and beliefs inform our values and are reflected in what we say and how we behave. RE is an important subject in itself, developing an individual’s knowledge and understanding of the religions and beliefs which form part of today’s society. Religious education provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, the self and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong, and what it means to be human. Religious education develops pupils’ knowledge and understanding of all religions, traditions and worldviews that offer answers to questions and gives life values.

Implementation

At Langmoor, all children learn about a variety of religions and celebrations across all world religions, building on their depth, knowledge and understanding each year. We follow the Leicestershire agreed syllabus with a tailored scheme of work to suit our children. Every child’s faith has an important role in our school and we hope our curriculum celebrates our differences. That children feel happy to share their own experiences with their peers, developing an understanding and respect for all faiths and communities.

In addition to classroom lessons, we join in collective worship for singing and celebration assemblies, welcoming members of the community in to lead the assemblies.
