Langmoor Primary School

Art & Design

Intent

At Langmoor Primary school we strive to ensure children are provided with opportunities to stimulate creativity and imagination. We want our children to love art, craft and design and our Art and Design curriculum has been developed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.  We ensure children are provided with ample opportunities to develop skills using a wide range of media and techniques. Children are provided with the chance to use a range of materials creativity to design and make products, develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.

Implementation

The Art and Design curriculum follows Access Art. We teach Art one half term and DT the other half term. We ensure that the topics covered follow the three main aspects from Access Art - Drawing and Sketchbooks. Surface and Colour and Working in 3D. Where possible links are made with other curriculum areas.

Impact

The structure of the Art and Design Technology curriculum ensures that children are able to develop their knowledge and understanding of the work of artists, designers and craftspeople from a range of different time periods and cultures and apply this to their own work. Classroom displays reflect the children’s sense of pride in their work and this is also demonstrated by creative outcomes across the wider curriculum. The school environment also celebrates children’s achievements in Art and Design Technology through links to Forest School where children are offered regular opportunities to enhance their creativity in an outdoor environment.
